José Antonio Portugal

Filmmaker, programmer, cultural manager, critic, and teacher for 49 years. He began his career by founding the "Blanco y Negro" film club in Arequipa in the early 1970s. He was involved in the management of film festivals and screenings, primarily based in Arequipa. He also worked as a film critic and columnist for print media such as the Arequipa newspaper El Correo and the Última Hora newspaper. As a filmmaker, he has directed more than 20 films between 1977 and 2016. For several decades, he has dedicated himself to teaching at various institutions in Lima, Cusco, Piura, and Arequipa.
